What would the preachers do if the devil was saved?
What would the preachers do if HE weren't so depraved?
What if he turned in his pitchfork,
And said, "I'm sorry I misbehaved!"?
What would the preachers do if the devil was saved?

What would the preachers do if the devil went straight?
Could they stay in bed on Sundays and sleep late?
Or would they still need to talk at us
About that old strait gate?
What would the preachers do if the devil went straight?

And what would the rest of us do if the devil turned good,
If he started preaching love and brotherhood?
Would we hang our heads in shame
'Cause we'd have nobody left to blame?
What would the rest of us do if the devil turned good?
